It's never been truer than today...

Louis Armstrong: "You say, 'What about all the war? That's
not wonderful. And hunger and poverty aren't so great
either.' Well, it seems to me that it's not the world
that's bad, but we're doing to it. All I'm sayin'
is 'What a wonderful world it could be, if we just gave it
a chance.' Love, baby, love is the way to go."
In the bathroom with Brian Blades

So, my first trip to the Jazz Standard: Kenny Werner's band w/
Chris Potter, Scott Colley, Ralph Alessi, and Brian Blades. Like an
conscientious audience member, I hit the bathroom before the
show. As I'm washing my hands, I look over to the next sink:
there's Brian Blades. And not that I was star-struck, but more
dumbfounded that I was sharing the same, say, 15 cubic feet with
him. Not exactly the time to drop my business card, so I work in the
Rutgers program and let him know I'll be around, after he asks.
So, I have Brian Blades' blessing for good luck and prosperity in
NYC. Cool. I wonder what means more: that or the bird crapping
on my nice jacket as I got off the 6 train a couple weeks ago.
Because they say that's good luck, too, you know.
Late at night - thinking of an album...

I was just thinking about this great album I haven't listened to in a
couple months. Just before I moved from Richmond I was listening
to it at least three or four times a week. It's a duet album with Dave
McKenna - one of my favorite pianists - and the great baritone sax
player, Joe Temperley: "Sunbeam and Thundercloud." Just a
perfect album, not overstated, just great intimate jazz. It blows my
mind. Temperley plays bass clarinet and soprano sax on the
album also. Wow. Check it out.
