Orlando, the guitar maker
Saturday, October 11, 2003

After checking into our rooms, we set out to meet Orlando, a guitar maker. He showed us his work, including an unbelievable home-made machine that spun guitar strings, powered by a washing machine motor. What amazing ingenuity! We talked music, drank rum and coffee and made music. How I wish I played a more portable instrument!

Orlando Perez and his guitar.

Orlando schools us on the "habanera" bass and sings this beautiful bolero.

Singing "La Casa de la Rosa," this is Orlando at his best. You can hear that we're all enjoying ourselves!
